The Allen & Heath AB168 is a professional audio interface stage box designed to extend the input and output capabilities of compatible digital mixing consoles. It operates using Allen & Heath's proprietary dSNAKE protocol, allowing it to connect to QU series and GLD series mixers via a single Cat5e cable. This setup provides a streamlined solution for live sound and studio applications, reducing cable clutter and simplifying system integration. The unit essentially functions as a remote preamp and output box, placing high-quality microphone preamplifiers closer to the sound source on stage while maintaining digital audio integrity over longer distances. Key features include 16 balanced XLR microphone inputs, each equipped with phantom power and individual status LEDs. There are also 8 balanced XLR line-level outputs for sending audio from the mixer to stage monitors or front-of-house systems.
