sE Electronics RNR1 Rupert Neve Active Ribbon Microphone

The sE Electronics RNR1 is an active ribbon microphone developed in collaboration with audio engineering legend Rupert Neve. This microphone represents a significant advancement in ribbon microphone technology, combining the classic warm, natural tone associated with ribbon designs with extended high-frequency performance and improved transient response. Unlike traditional ribbon microphones that often require pairing with condensers to capture high-end detail, the RNR1 is engineered to deliver a more complete frequency capture in a single microphone. The microphone features a hand-crafted 2.5 µm aluminium ribbon capsule with a symmetrical figure-8 polar pattern. Its active electronics, powered by standard 48V phantom power, include two custom Rupert Neve transformers and specialised circuitry that enable an extended frequency response while maintaining the desirable warmth of ribbon technology. With a maximum sound pressure level handling of 137dB and surprisingly low self-noise for a ribbon design, the RNR1 is capable of capturing everything from delicate acoustic instruments to high-volume sources like guitar amplifiers and kick drums.
