The Warm Audio WA-73EQ is a single-channel, Class A microphone preamplifier with a dedicated three-band equaliser. It is designed to faithfully recreate the sonic character and functionality of the legendary British 1073 preamp, offering a reliable and accessible alternative to vintage hardware. This unit is intended for recording studios, home studios, and project spaces, providing professional-grade signal conditioning for a wide variety of audio sources. The preamp's core circuitry is fully discrete and hand-wired, utilising custom Carnhill transformers from the UK to deliver the sought-after tonal warmth and harmonic richness associated with classic analogue gear. It provides 80dB of clean gain via a stepped resistor switch and includes a TONE button that alters the input transformer's impedance for further sonic shaping. The inductor-based three-band EQ offers precise control with selectable frequencies: Low (35, 60, 110, 220 Hz), Mid (360 Hz to 7.2 kHz), and High (10, 12, 16 kHz), complemented by a four-position high-pass filter. This unit is exceptionally versatile, suitable for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, drums, and keyboards, or for processing signals on a mix bus.
