The Focal Alpha 80 Evo is an active studio monitor designed for professional audio production and critical listening applications. As part of Focal's Alpha Evo series, this single monitor features an 8-inch (20cm) Slatefibre woofer and a 1-inch aluminium inverted dome tweeter in a powered two-way configuration. It serves as a precise reference tool for music producers, sound engineers, and home studio enthusiasts who require accurate, uncoloured sound reproduction across a wide frequency range. The monitor's active design means each driver is powered by its own dedicated amplifier—80 watts for the woofer and 35 watts for the tweeter—ensuring optimal control and minimal distortion. The monitor incorporates several advanced technologies to deliver its performance. The Slatefibre woofer cone, developed in-house by Focal, provides an excellent balance of rigidity and damping for neutral tonality and detailed dynamic response. A large laminar reflex port enhances low-frequency extension, with the system offering a frequency response of 38Hz to 22kHz (±3dB). The rear panel hosts comprehensive connectivity, including balanced XLR and TRS inputs alongside an unbalanced RCA input, allowing connection of up to three audio sources simultaneously. User-adjustable controls include sensitivity (0 or +6dB), bass level (±6dB for 0-250Hz), and treble level (±3dB for 4.5-35kHz), enabling fine-tuning to suit different room acoustics. This model is particularly well-suited for medium to large control rooms or project studios where extended low-end response and higher sound pressure levels are beneficial. Its neutral presentation makes it ideal for mixing, mastering, and general audio production work across various genres. The cabinet is constructed from 15mm MDF with a black vinyl and paint finish, and it includes inserts for wall mounting using standard brackets. An automatic standby mode activates after approximately 15 minutes of no signal detection to conserve energy. The package includes a detachable IEC power cable, and the monitor operates on a universal 100-240V AC supply.
