The Rothenberger MAPP gas cylinder is a disposable 400g fuel cartridge designed for professional soldering, brazing, and heating applications. It contains a stabilised mixture of methylacetylene and propadiene, often referred to as MAPP gas or industrial-grade propylene. This formulation provides a significantly hotter flame than standard propane, making it suitable for tasks requiring higher temperatures, such as silver soldering refrigeration pipework or hard soldering in both commercial and domestic settings. The cylinder is constructed from robust, impact-resistant steel with a distinctive yellow finish and features a non-refillable valve compliant with EN ISO 11118:2015 safety standards. Its key advantage is a flame temperature of up to 2400°C (dependent on the torch nozzle), which eliminates the need for a more complex oxy-acetylene or oxy-fuel two-bottle setup for many high-temperature jobs. The gas mixture is noted for its purity, which helps prolong torch life by reducing harmful contaminants, and its composition allows for safer transport and use compared to acetylene, as it requires no special dilution or fillers. This product is particularly well-suited for HVAC and refrigeration engineers, plumbers, and metalworkers who require a portable, high-heat fuel source for on-site work. Once empty, the cylinder can be safely vented using a specific vent key (Rothenberger No. 35537) and then recycled as scrap steel.
