Petzl Quark Hammer Ice Axe for Technical Mountaineering and Ice Climbing

The Petzl Quark Hammer is a technical mountaineering ice axe specifically engineered for demanding ice climbing and alpine routes. Its design prioritises secure placement across various ice types, from brittle waterfall ice to mixed terrain, making it a versatile tool for serious climbers. The axe features a carefully balanced head with a tapered ice pick (3.3mm at the tip) that penetrates efficiently, while the modular head system allows for technical adjustments to suit different climbing styles. Key features include the innovative TRIGREST and GRIPREST QUARK handrests. The TRIGREST is height-adjustable without tools, strengthening grip on difficult sections, while the GRIPREST folds away easily for plunging the shaft into snow. The shaft itself is hydroformed for optimal grip in the middle section and curves below the head for hand protection. It remains straight enough for use in piolet-canne mode on snow slopes and is tipped with a steel spike. The over-moulded, bi-material handle provides insulation from the cold and secure grip, and the axe is compatible with various Petzl accessories like PUR'ICE picks and MASSELOTTE weights to modify its balance. This ice axe is best suited for experienced mountaineers and ice climbers tackling technical routes such as north faces, icefalls, gullies, and snow couloirs. Its lightweight construction (approximately 465g without accessories) and adaptable design make it a practical choice for multi-pitch climbs where weight and performance are critical. The connection hole is compatible with V-LINK elasticated loss-prevention webbing, adding a safety feature for demanding environments.
